This season, WSC entered its first team in the Lac St Louis Adult league. Our team was nominally Under 23, although was playing in an Under 35 mens league. Many of the players had played for the WSC youth teams in the past, or are current coaches of younger teams. With limited field time, all games were played away from home this season. U10 Girls Home Opener
The Westmount U10 girls played their home opener against Pointe-Claire under a perfectly sunny, blue sky on Sunday afternoon The team showed marked improvement from their first game of the season held the week before. The girls are motivated and happy to be playing together as a team. The coaches are looking forward to watching their progression.
U17M 4 – Lakeshore 1
Under the May full moon, the U17 boys put on an excellent display of team work to handily defeat Lakeshore 4-1.
Despite the humidity, there was continuous banter amongst players throughout the evening. This proved to be key as that effective communication allowed them to maintain possession for the majority of the game. Skillful execution of key plays and solid passing resulted in two goals by William (one of which was from a corner), a confident tap in by Oscar after the goalie fumbled a shot from a free kick, and a perfectly played corner kick from Harry headed in by Ugo (see Picture).
With two wins already under their belt, the season is off to a great start. Well done U17!
U8 Team Home Opener
The U8 team opened their home season with a close game against Lakeshore on Sunday playing 5×5. For most of the team, this was their first experience playing intercity soccer, and there were smiles all round after a close battle.
They had every reason to be proud of themselves, with some great goalkeeping, and excellent passing trying to find opportunities.
World Cup Contest Results
After a fantastic month of football, full of surprises, we have 2 winners in the contest.
Coach Sid wins the coaches contest, as the only coach to choose France to win.
Luca R. from the U17 team had selected France and the winner, with Belgium in second place. Several players had chosen France, but Luca’s entry had Belgium placed highest.
Sid and Luca will be the jersey winners.
An honourable mention goes to Val for having the foresight to select Croatia to win.
