U16 Boys Win Regionals

Having won the league title, the U16 Boys team progressed to the regionals 23-24 September, winning the Soccer Quebec Regional A title in Deux Montagnes.

On the first day the team progressed through the group stage, but had trouble finding their stride, playing some inconsistent football against teams that played a very physical game.  The boys arrived for the final on Sunday, fully aware that they had to up their game if they were to beat the St Leonard team.

It was not until 15 minutes into the first half that the boys finally started to play with the skill and confidence they had demonstrated so often in the regular season.  Still 0-0 at the half, they moved it up a notch earlier in the second half putting St Leonard under prolonged pressure.  Before long, P-B wrong footed the goalie from the the wing putting the ball in the net from a tight angle.  Alex followed it up with a second shorly after, leading to a frantic final 20 minutes, as St Leonard tried to close the gap. The defence had to clear the ball several times from the goal line, and the goalie was kept very busy, but the boys stayed focused and maintained the shut out.

The final whistle didn’t come a second too soon in the 30 degree heat.  Westmount 2 – St Leonard 0.  This is the first regional title that the club has won in its short history, and coaches Karl and Bruno were delighted to lead the team collecting the medals and trophy.  Congratulations to the team, and thanks to Karl, Bruno and Sid for coaching the team.
