The U12 girls played three pre-season preparation matches on Saturday May 7 at the Défi Soccer tournament hosted by the Carabins varsity soccer teams at University of Montreal’s CEPSUM Stadium. The 11th edition of Défi-Soccer featured over 100 youth teams representing all the regions in and around Montreal.
The Wanderers, with newly appointed head coach Salim Brahimi and assistant coach Juan Carlos Mejia at the helm, had a successful first outing. They tied the first match 1-1 vs. Lachine. Sophie scored the tying goal in the last minute, assisted by Scarlett and Sofia D. The girls lost the second match 0-3 vs. FC Challenger, and tied their final match 0-0 vs. Chomedey. Emma was strong in goal for all three matches, earning her first shutout of the season in the final outing.
“This tournament was excellent preparation for our coming competitive season,” said coach Salim. “The girls played hard and really enjoyed the experience. This was an occasion for us to start shaping a cohesive team on the field and also to begin building strong and unified team spirit.” Coach Salim added “We have a good group of players and I am excited to work with them to achieve our full potential in the course of the season.”
The Wanderers will play their season opener on May 24 at Ile Bizzard.
