The U17 Boys team warmed up for the season with a friendly game on Saturday against Lasalle U16 M AA. Although playing a slightly younger team from a higher division, the teams proved to be well matched. This was the Westmount U17-M first time playing together, without the benefit of even a first practice. Lasalle piled on pressure early in the game, but Westmount soon found their feet. The defence proved effective in shutting down Lasalle’s attacks, and with some tight passing managed to make opportunities. Westmount got the first goal off a penalty kick, adding confidence and followed it up with a second goal. Lasalle came back with one in the second half, but were unable to penetrate the defence again, leaving Westmount up 2-1 at the final whistle.
Coaches Mehdi and Xavier were pleased with this as a first game for the team, and have some ideas of what to focus on in the first practices before official season starts.
Practices will hopefully start next weekend once the Westmount fields are playable.
